Shipping: Australia Post

Generates real labels and tracking numbers, so a dispatched order carries a tracking link your customer can actually use.

Stub mode

Left blank, shipping runs in stub mode: labels are generated with synthetic tracking numbers so the workflow is complete and testable.

Do not go live in stub mode

A synthetic tracking number looks real in a dispatch email and tracks nothing. If you are not connecting a carrier, remove the tracking variable from your dispatch template so you are not sending customers a number that will never move.

Using it

Generate shipping label on the order creates the label and tracking. Tracking flows into the dispatch email and SMS through the variable.

The default carrier on each customer record prefills the carrier on their orders, which saves picking it every time for accounts that always ship the same way.

Other carriers

Australia Post is the direct integration today. For any other carrier, the workflow still works: enter the tracking number on the order and it flows into the customer notifications the same way. You lose automatic label generation, not the customer-facing part.

Practical notes

  • Weigh and measure your standard cartons once and keep the figures somewhere. Most label errors are dimension errors.
  • Generate the label at pack time, not at dispatch time, so the packer catches an address problem while the box is still open.
  • A wrong address is the most common cause of a returned parcel. Check the shipping default on the customer record for clubs with separate delivery and billing addresses.
